Tulsa Police Sergeant Ollie Harris

Ollie Harris was one of the original driving instructors with the Tulsa Police Department. It is his vision that carried the unit into what it is today. Sergeant Ollie Harris retired on December 31, 1990, after serving 30 years with the police department. He has been employed with the City of Tulsa as the fleet manager since that date. Sergeant Harris was one of the original instructors to be certified as an Oklahoma Law Enforcement Driver Training Instructor in 1984. He subsequently served on various committees while helping implement mandatory driver training for cadets in Oklahoma. Ollie Harris continues to coordinate the Tulsa Police Driver-Training Program. He has taken a small unit of a few officers and turned it into a progressive group of 30.

In 1986, Ollie Harris was instrumental in gaining the access to a flooded mobile home park. Through his vision, one of the finest training facilities was built. Today, Holiday Park has evolved from flooded property to one of the most advanced driving facilities in Oklahoma. Hundreds of city employees utilize the facility located at 10759 East Admiral Place to train each year in driving. In 1987, Sergeant Harris developed a curriculum which was mandated for every Tulsa Police Officer. The collision rate was reduced by 50% the following year. In 2000, he approved another mandated course which reduced the collision rate by 20%. As an active driving instructor for over twenty years, Sergeant Ollie Harris continues to lead by his expertise and desire to make Law Enforcement Driving safer.
The vision, determination and will of Tulsa Police Sergeant Ollie Harris has set the bar where very few could match in the future.
