Dear Supporter of Law Enforcement,

As you read last week, 75 law enforcement officers lost their lives in 2006.

Of these 75 officers, 22 died in automobile accidents, four officers died in motorcycle accidents and five were struck by automobiles while outside of their own vehicles. That's 31 officers — over 40%!

The growing number of officers killed in automobile accidents is a troubling trend. This number has increased by 40% over the last three decades and by 22% over the past year.

There are three measures that we believe can help decrease the number of traffic-related law enforcement deaths:

  1. Increasing the level of driver training for all officers.
  2. Improving safety systems in law enforcement vehicles.
  3. Educating drivers so that they are more attentive to officers stopped on the side of the road.

However, we need your help to continue our work to generate increased public support for the law enforcement profession by permanently recording and appropriately commemorating the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers; and to provide information that will help promote law enforcement safety.

By donating now, you will enable the NLEOMF to continue our in all of these areas — as well as
continue our essential work to bring the National Law Enforcement Museum from the planning table to reality. Click here to make a secure online donation.

Your help WILL make a difference in the lives of our law enforcement officers. To make your online donation of $100, $75, $50 or $25, please click here.

Sincerely,
