Austin Police Academy Instructor Mike Castillo
Officer Mike Castillo has been with the Austin Police Department since 1994 and is currently the Driving/Traffic/DWI program director for the Austin Police Department Cadet Training Unit. Officer Castillo was one of the founding members of the APD-DWI Enforcement Unit and currently is involved in an effort to get the Austin Police Department involved in a program to restructure the way police officers are trained in pursuit and emergency driving situations. Mike felt led to an effort to improve the driver training of Austin Police Officers after he realized that the last four officers killed in the line of duty were killed in motor vehicle collisions or by drunk drivers.
Officer Castillo has attended the Texas A&M Driving Instructor Course as well as over 120 hours of advanced training, including the Michigan State Police Advanced Precision Driving Course. He is currently the traffic and driving director for the Austin, Texas Police Department Training Academy.
Officer Mike Castillo is forging a
string effort in the State of Texas to improve training. His expertise,
dedication and attitude will no doubt be an incredible asset to improve law
enforcement driver training around the United States.
