Carbon Motors Corp. = First purpose built Police Interceptor
This company looks on track to be the first production police car that was designed to be just that from the ground up - a police car.
http://www.carbonmotors.com/
I sent in a request for a brochure and was pleasantly surprised to have gotten a call from Stacy Dean Stephens, the Sales Development Manager. He was
very candid and spent a good deal of time on the phone with me. Nice guy. The company is planning on a 2010 / 2011 launch.
Highlights:
* 3.0 Litre Diesel
* 300 HP
* 420 Ft Lbs Tq (!)
* 6 Speed Auto
* 14" / 13" F/R Brakes
They recently announced a partnership with LOTUS !! If they put the above package together, along with a suspension designed by Lotus, this is gonna
be a slam dunk.

Stacy, will the car be sold outright to agencies or will this be a long term lease and the car comes back to CMC ?

They will be sold outright. However, we (Carbon and the Law Enforcement Community) do not want these vehicles getting into the hands of Joe-Blow
Citizen and Carbon will prevent that in one of the following ways:
A - Carbon will maintain a database of agencies that buy only used vehicles. We will use that database to help bring together those agencies wishing
to sell their decommissioned vehicles with agencies in the market to purchase.
B - Carbon will buy back decommissioned vehicles and will subsequently:
1) refurbish and resell them; or
2) remove the useful parts and offer them as service parts, and recycle the remaining bits.
That being said, a small number of agencies (less than 8%) do lease their vehicles and we will simply take them back at the end of their lease.

Thanks, Stacy - It's good to see you folks are taking security into the equation as well. Carbon certainly has a unique approach to the whole
interceptor game.
On another note, its great to somebody make a run at designing, developing and manufacturing an American car again. With so much of our manufacturing
going overseas we NEED more of this approach in the US.

The forums are up and running. You can register at the site, but it may take a little while for you to be processed as they are making the effort to
screen for LEOs only.
This is a once in a lifetime deal folks - contribute to the cars design.

Many people are lamenting the demise of the Magnum. Is Carbon Motors looking to provide a version with extra cargo capacity while maintaining the
sedan perfomance, and field of view? All officers, especially patrol Sgts. or supervisors, are having to carry more toys.

In a word, no. A start-up company with a daunting task like bringing a new car to market faces HUGE engineering and development costs. They have one
style of vehicle in mind, the sedan, and very few options.
As mentioned above you can always register and voice your concerns. They are sensitive to the market demands, and if they hear enough clamoring for
one thing or another the likelihood of production gets better.

Any plans to bring it to the Northwest? Seattle / Portland?

Yes, we will. But it will be in 2009. Not sure of the timeframe yet. We will continually update the tour calendar as things develop.

Major coolness. Keep us posted...Interestingly enough, our Chief brought this car up during a staff meeting. The discussion turned toward the possible
demise of the CVPI and his dislike of the Charger (yeah, I know...he's not a car guy), he seems to be pretty enthusiastic about the Carbon Motors
car. Are you guys planning on other engine options? Or is the Turbo Diesel it?

Yesterday, we announced the 2009 schedule for the tour of our vehicle. This is not necessarily the only cities and events that we will be visiting,
so be sure to check back often or get signed up for the Carbon Council and we'll update you.
Go to the Tour page on our Web site for more information. And, yes - word is getting around! Thanks everyone!!!

Currently, the diesel is it. We are, however, investigating other possibilities but no hints yet...

Scheduled to be in Seattle next month. I am going to do all I can to get there. MC road trip!
(Ok - only 4 1/2 hours or so, hardly a real road trip)

Should have gone back to the Carbon site before I left. Rescheduled! Found this out after the trip up...
At least it was a good mini-road-trip on the 'Wing'
