Site Update
I'm considering a re-design of Policedriving.com. What started as a site for myself and a few friends to hang out on has turned into a mini second
job. While I'm not complaining and I have been truly blessed to be a part of it, it is time to give the site a more professional appearance.
If you are not aware, the design has changed at least 3 times. The first two were done by me and this design was done by a friend for a small fee.
Cops doing websites don't match well so I have been talking to professional designers.
This will cost money and I would like your input and I would like honesty.
What do you not like about the site? What would you like to see on the site?, etc......
I'm looking at a price range of $2000 and probably doing this sometime in 2008. A redesign is tricky. I have a lot of visitors that are used to
seeing the site. I don't want to run them off but at the same time, I want the site to reflect the professionalism of those that frequent
it...YOU.
Thoughts?

Personally, I like it pretty well, just the way it is. I would possibly change the font to a bit larger size in the forums, allow avatars, and spruce
up the home page bit. Maybe give the administrators a huge pay raise?
Nothing big comes to mind right away. 'Lemme give it some thought.

I agree with ^. A larger font might be nice for us older folks. A face lift would be nice, but I would hate to see it over commercialized.
Mark- I am sure they are more than willing to double or even triple wages.

It would be nice to see less SPAM from the sh*theads out there by requiring some type of sign up approval before anyone can post. This would save a
lot of time/frustration for the owner/admin and require the new member to go through the trouble of submitting a request for new membership approval.
Many forums require some type of scrutiny for new user sign up. Check out Corner-Carvers.net and you will quickly find that they have zero tolerance
for boneheads.
Here is an example of the laws put forth to weed out the weak and frail. Corner-Carvers.net wiki site
All boneheads should be punished to the point that it becomes ridiculous. I mean, there should be severe penalties for those who abuse forums, (such
as this fine and respectable forum) and feel the wrath of it's members. There must be accountability on the Net, and it's unfortunate that there is
this vacuum that makes for anonymous postings that are hidden behind bogus email address/registered user accounts. Off with their heads!

Keep the suggestions coming. I'm saving my pennies and talking to designers.

This site really caught my eye. It has a good look to it. Tom ( Vortech ) sent it to me regarding another matter. It has a great look and feel to
it.

Thanks Mark, thats exactly what I need. Some examples of sites. I'm talking to a couple of webmasters now and a forum update should be happening as
well.
Remember when you send site examples to think about the current layout. I need a place for the news on the front page and I need a column on both
sides to work with. Keep them coming....

One of the things I really liked was the rotating video on the home page. I think this site would lend itself very well to this.

I would strongly suggest "Community Server 2007". I am gaining knowledge by the day with this software - its pretty darn good.

I agree with mark..I too like it as it is. If too much is added it might slow down the laoding of the page.
You might wanna add those google link as it definately make some $$$ at the same time. At least helps to cover some cost...

But unfortunately server is not free and I'm paying for it from my pocket. But do not worry. Server will stay alive even without your donations. But
if you want to help - why not?
I have a PayPal account, but I'm from Russia so I can't use it for accepting payments But I can think of another ways of donation:
