The Police Driving Site is proud to bring you the United Kingdom Police Driving Section.  The U.K. is much more advanced than the United States when it comes to driver training issues.

Normal Patrol Drivers undergo a three (3) week training course in police driver training which is considered the standard course.  The average training in the United States is three (3) days.  The system of training used is based on the police system of car control called Roadcraft.  It covers various types of driving conditions.

Prior to pursuing, U.K. Officers must then complete the advanced driving course which lasts another four (4) weeks. Much of this training is conducted on public roads, in real life situations.  To maintain the Advanced Status for pursuits, the officers must pass a refresher course every three (3) years.  A brief summary of the 160 hour advanced course can be found at the  Scottish Police College Website.

To qualify as a driving instructor, an additional 496 hours of training is required.
