The Police Driving Site is based out of the United States.  Unlike other countries, there is no national standard on police driver training.  The training is regulated by each of the fifty (50) states.  The laws and legislation in each state can range greatly.  Police driver training is given to American Peace Officers in the academy, prior to them becoming officers.  This training ranges from 2-14 days.  The average hours trained in driving is approximately 24.

Several states require driver training on a periodic basis but the majority do not.

Check back soon for a breakdown of the requirements in each state.

Currently more American Police die in traffic related deaths than anything else.  The last few years have brought a push to increase driver training among police.  In 2005, the National Law Enforcement Memorial began a campaign to reduce law enforcement deaths that are the result of traffic collisions and pursuits.

The majority of the information within this site deals with The United States.  Due to that, there are not any specific links provided here.

The Police Driving Site is looking for State Representatives to assist in promoting police driver training and safer police pursuits.  If you are a police officer in a specific state and would like to help, please contact us at policedriving@yahoo.com
